Fact and fiction of emergency surgical care in America: a neurosurgical perspective.

The theme of this session of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons 2006 Annual Meeting was the growing challenge of neurotrauma care in America. The session was cosponsored by the American College of Surgeons, and several leaders in trauma care participated on behalf of the College. This particular presentation investigated several common misperceptions and overlooked truths regarding neurotrauma care. Along these lines, the reader is asked to decide whether the following statements are fact or fiction. Answers and discussion follow below:
